Fairie Queen Redux, notes
by masonkBecause of how blogs work, these notes are posted after the two parts of the story but show up over them on the front page. So I’m going to put a cut here so you can click on them when you want to read them. If you want to read them.
And no, these notes don’t count toward the wordcount.

As often happens, this story didn’t go where I thought it was going to go when I started writing. I might write that story another time.
There are many inspirations for this one. The title is taken almost directly from Heather Alexander’s Fairie Queen from the Wanderlust CD. As an aside, I highly recommend any and all of Heather’s work for inspirational listening. The basic idea of playing a fiddle against a supernatural entity has been around for awhile, of course. The most modern retellings I can think of, other than the afformentioned Fairie Queen, are Charlie Daniels’ The Devil Went Down to Georgia and Mercedes Lackey’s Bardic Tales: The Lark and the Wren, but I’m sure there are others. And there are tales of playing games against Death to earn back your soul or the soul of a loved one. The most recent I can think of there is in The Sims 2.
What? No, what?
So, hey. Let me know of other examples of those things, why don’t you?
